TURNOR Les

Les Turnor and his wife Joan lived at 11 Bell street, Gnowangerup with their two daughters Audrey and Janice. Both girls attended the Gnowangerup School.

They operated a fish and chips business in a prime location. It was originally Harry Lowers Agency business was originally at these premises. On one side was the Hotel and on the other side was the TAB premises.

Across the road was a large peppercorn tree alongaside the National Bank. It was under this tree that Les started a taxi service in his Plymouth DeSoto car. They could not have chosen a better position - Hotel on one side, Tab on the other and the Taxi Business across the road.

The fat in the cooker caught fire in the late 1950s causing quite a lot of damage and lots of black smoke. The family left Gnowangerup in 1963 and moved to Northam.
